Questions and answers
What do the year and happiness score represent?
The year is the report edition, not a single year of measured happiness. Scores summarise surveyed life evaluations on a scale from zero to ten, normally over a three-year window.
Are survey periods and country coverage identical?
Survey coverage differs by country. In particular, some windows in the 2015 edition differ from the nominal 2012–2014 period. Countries without surveys are not ranked; coverage varies by edition.
How are ranks, ties and uncertainty handled?
Scores and ranks come from the original report tables. Published ranks are retained even when rounded scores match. Small rank differences do not capture the full uncertainty of survey estimates.
